Add to your send to file

Back

When you right click and item you receive a drop down menu of choices that includes a choice of Send to.

These choices usually include your A: drive CD Rom Drive and a few others.

This can be customized to include any destination you wish for instance you can include file folders or programs such as Word or Excel in this list and here is how to do it:

First we will create a shortcut to Send to within the send to file, and then we will send our selections to it. To keep down confusion we will also rename this short cut.

Very important to remember the use of the control key in the following instructions so that you do not mistakenly “move” to the new sent to list and only “copy” to it.

Please read these directions twice before starting.

Here we go:

  1. Open windows explorer and using the TOOL command select folder options, click on the view tab at the top scroll down this list and select show hidden files Click apply and then OK.
  2. Now on the left screen open C: drive by clicking on the + sign and scroll down until you find my documents click on its + sign and scroll to user settings or current user settings, or your name settings, open by clicking the + sign and scroll to the SEND TO folder.
  3. Click on this folder to open it in the right screen.
  4. Now right click, hold, and drag the folder on the left screen to the right screen, release and select create shortcut or copy here. This creates a shortcut to SENT TO within the SEND TO folder.
  5. Now to avoid confusion later lets right click this shortcut, select rename and the rename it “This Menu”
  6. Now go back to TOOLS and deselect show all folders and close explorer.
  7. Now lets add your word processor to the SEND TO menu, right click your word processor and open the send to menu, WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE CONTROL KEY CLICK ON ”THIS MENU”  from the choices shown in the drop down send to menu.
  8. The next time you right click a file your word processor should be one of the choices of the send to drop down menu.
