The Command Line

To get to the command line form the desktop enter <Ctrl>+<Alt>+F1. This will bring up the ubuntu Login: command line.  Enter the user name and then the password when prompted.

This will open the username@ubuntu:~$ command line.  Enter the command “info info” (without the quotes).  This opens the Info file itself.

The Info file

In this file is the Manual for using Info files and contains a long list of commands and structures for generating your own Info file that could be helpful.  It also describes the keyboard commands for moving around inside the Info file itself.  You can also enter such commands as <Info fd> to obtain information about the Floppy Disk drive.  As you can see the argument for the Info command will lead you to that section of the Info file dealing with that subject.

The opening screen contains an introduction and a menu for the succeeding chapters.

*Menu:

*Getting Started::                  Getting started using an Info reader

*Expert Info::                         Info commands for experts

*Creating an Info File::        How to make your own Info file

*Index::                                   An index of topics, commands and variables

Use the arrow keys to select a menu item and press <Enter>.  NOTE: A line that begins with an asterisk in the left hand column is a link to that subject and is activated by pressing <Enter>.

When scrolling through the Info file the following keyboard commands will help.  These browsing instructions are actually found under the heading Info for Experts.
